MP pledges support for Public Access Defibrillator campaign

York Outer MP Julian Sturdy has pledged his support to the charity AED Donate’s campaign to make York ‘Heartsafe’ by deploying locally sponsored Public Access Defibrillators.

York Outer MP Julian Sturdy has pledged his support to the charity AED Donate’s campaign to make York ‘Heartsafe’ by deploying locally sponsored Public Access Defibrillators.

This follows the success of a similar scheme in Harrogate, where 11 new defibrillators were sponsored by local businesses and successfully installed in the town.

Public Access Defibrillators can be used by members of the public under the guidance of 999 operators in the time before ambulance staff arrive at the patient.

Speaking about the campaign, Mr Sturdy said “This is an incredibly worthwhile scheme as I am sure anyone who has had a friend or family member affected by cardiac arrest will agree.

“Heart attacks can strike anyone at any time. I think the improved survival rates of patients treated by defibrillators within 10 minutes speak for themselves, where the chance of survival soars from 3 per cent to 75 per cent.

“I have given AED Donate my full backing, and will continue to work with them in their push to make York ‘Heartsafe’.”
