What is the nation's favourite family meal?

Roast beef, jacket potato, pizza and spaghetti bolognese have all made the list - but what do you reckon came top this year?

Fish fingers, Sunday roast and omelette are some of the top meals which have remained popular over the past 50 years.

Back in the 1960's, the Sunday roast was the dish chosen by families.

Fish fingers, roast chicken, beans on toast, roast beef, shepherd's pie, boiled egg and soldiers, fish and chips, scrambled egg and beef stew all made the top ten of favourites.

In the 1970's these were the ones we loved the most;

  • 1. Sunday roast
  • 2. Fish fingers
  • 3. Roast chicken
  • 4. Beans on toast
  • 5. Shepherd's Pie
  • 6. Roast beef
  • 7. Boiled egg and soldiers
  • 8. Fish and chips
  • 9. Cottage pie
  • 10. Jacket Potato

By the time the 1980's came around, fish fingers knocked the Sunday roast off the top spot.

Pizza made the list for the first time, coming in 10th.

However, by the time the 1990's ended - it was voted number one!

Here's the top ten;

It may be surprising, but spaghetti bolognese has trumped the rest.

The family favourite for 2018 is spaghetti bolognese!

It came second in the 90's and has now overtaken the crowd, with Sunday roast dropping down to a shocking 6th.

Pasta and sauces has entered the top 10 for the first time.
