Drax climate change campaigners sentenced

28 climate change campaigners, who prevented a train taking coal to Drax Power Station near to Selby, will be sentenced later.

After being found guilty of obstructing the railway near Selby last year, 28 climate change campaigners will be sentenced this morning.

They hyjacked a train taking coal to Drax Power Station claiming they were doing their bit for the environment.

The incident was 15 months back in June 2008 about 3 quarters of a mile from the village of Carlton, when protestors spent 12 hours onboard a train.

They draped banners over the side saying "leave it in the ground" and started off loading the coal.

The demonstration ended peacefully with the police bringing all members down and arresting them.

They will be sentenced today, but we already know they won't be facing jail.
