The City of York Council has been rated as performing adequately in their latest assessment by the Audit Commission.
It's graded how it managed and used its resources up until March 2009 to deliver value for money for residents.
It's the first time that the authority has been assessed under the new Comprehensive Area Assessment.
Councillor Richard Moore has told Minster FM he's pleased.
He says "York receives a lower Government grant per head than most other councils, yet we are still able to provide excellent services".
