Low paid workers are sometimes better off being jobless and staying on benefits.
That's the verdict of a former Tory leader, Iain Duncan Smith, whose report today suggests subsidising the low paid so it's more attractive for them to stay in work.
Jobless totals are at their highest level since May 1995.
Nationally they're at 2.47 million.
In North Yorkshire the number of claimants for benefits rose by over 200 to 9464.
