Hospital admissions may be reduced in North Yorkshire in the future thanks to a new technology called Telehealthcare.
It involves a small electronic unit being installed in a patient's home which is programmed to monitor their health.
The devise takes readings such as blood pressure, oxygen levels, weight and temperature and then sends the information to a monitoring centre where any abnormalities can be flagged-up.
The scheme will be rolled out in Whitby, Selby, York and parts of Hambleton and Richmondshire over the next twelve months.
