LISTEN - Women try to snatch bag from car at traffic lights in York

A woman from York says people should be wary when driving around with their windows down.

It comes after two women tried to snatch Bethan Vincent's handbag from her car while she had pulled up at the junction with Lord Mayors Walk and Gillygate.

Police are investigating the incident and Bethan says it's a reminder to be careful about leaving valuables on the seat even when you are in the vehicle.

She described the incident, which happened when she was coming back from a weekly trip to the supermarket, as very odd experience.

The thief wasn't successful as Bethan says she let out a stream of choice words and the woman ran off.

Police say they are checking CCTV footage.

Both women were wearing hoodies so Bethan isn't able to give too many details about their description.

She told MInster FM it was more important to just warn people to be on their guard as the weather gets hotter and we are driving around will windows or soft tops down more.
