CORONAVIRUS - First York restoring bus services

CORONAVIRUS - First York restoring bus services

SHARE THIS STORY:

Published by the Minster FM News Team at 10:29am 30th May 2020.

First York is increasing the number of buses on routes around the city, as a first step towards restoring operations to normal.

It cut services by 60 per cent when the Government introduced Covid 19 restrictions in March.

From tomorrow (Sunday May 31st) they are running more services across York but there will be less space available on each bus - typically only 20 per cent of seats will be available.

The rest of the seats will be taped off and clearly marked.

The Managing Director of First York, Marc Bichtemann, told Minster FM:

"Passengers will be asked to keep a distance between themselves and other people.

They are also being asked to wear masks if they can.

They are being encouraged to pay by card or phone, instead of by cash, and on double deckers there will be asked to use the top deck first.

Buses will also be cleaned throughout the day and passengers can expect to see cleaners getting on board their bus at various points."

First Bus is hoping passengers will cooperate and help the new system work.

It will be labelled on the outside of the bus if it is full but First York say there should be enough buses to satisfy demand.
