Only a third of primary schools in North Yorkshire (outside York) will reopen today after some schools were ruled too risky.
The County Council says 110 out of 359 schools will welcome back reception, year one and year six classes this morning - a further 24 are planning to reopen from June 8.
North Yorkshire has a relatively high number of small rural schools and the County Council says many of these are not suitable for social distancing measures and will be staying shut.
It's aiming to reassure parents of children at those schools that are restarting lessons today,
Some children will be taught in small "bubbles" - spending the day with the same teacher and small group of children, who stay separate from other bubbles in school.
Teaching tools, toys, surfaces and any other items touched by children will be sanitised and regular hand-washing will be in place.
The County Council says schools have drawn up a bespoke approach to reopening, appropriate to their circumstances.
Schools in York come under the remit of City of York Council.
