A fire - believed to have been started deliberately - has devastated Thirsk Falcons Football Club - but the community is already taking action to raise funds to replace lost facilities.
On Sunday afternoon the club posted the following message on Facebook:
"Vandalism is one thing, arson is something else!
This afternoon, instead of enjoying the weather, someone decided it would be a good idea to set our cabin at TAC on fire!
The cabin was made secure after the last time it was vandalised, but they have come back and this time set fire to it.
The cabin had a build up of equipment collected over the years, and as you can see now, nothing is left.
It should be added that next door is the cafe with gas canisters in there, putting the lives of the firemen at risk if it were to spread to the cafe.
Thankfully the cafe is ok and suffered no damage due to the amazing work from the North Yorkshire fire service!
If you have any information that can help, however little, please inform either the police or contact the club."
The club also posted a series of photos showing the extent of the damage.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
"At 12.49pm crews from Thirsk, Northallerton and Ripon responded to reports of a fire in a building.
This was discovered to be a cabin on fire.
The cabin and its contents were destroyed by fire.
Cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate. Six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and two thermal imagining cameras were used."
A short while later the club posted this update:
"As a club, we have been blown away by the messages of support from our community and beyond!
From offers to help with clean up and donations to information to pass on to the police.
We are truly grateful!
We have set up a fund raising page for all those kind people who have offered to help with donations!
Thirsk really is an incredible town!
Thank you again!
