Village celebrates "Burn Big Event" day
It's this weekend at Burn near Selby
This weekend (Sat 1st and Sun 2nd July) is the 'Burn Big Event' weekend at Burn on the A19 south of Selby.
On Saturday 1st July, there's live music from country rockabilly band, The Hangtown Thieves. The band will be performing in the village marquee on The Wheatsheaf pub car park from 8pm and entrance is free.
The six-piece ensemble plays country-blues music with a pop edge. They take their inspiration from the stories and music of 1920s – 1950s America, playing their own style of country rockabilly including songs by Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and from the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
Also on offer, on both Saturday and Sunday, is the chance to taste some special local ales at landlord Andy Howdall’s ‘mini beer festival’, also in the village marquee.
From 3pm onwards on Sunday, Burn celebrates its annual ‘Big Lunch’ for the ninth consecutive year, with more live music from The Hangtown Thieves and Andy’s barbecue, plus some games and a tombola.
An added attraction this year is a ‘taster stall’ kindly provided by Morrison’s, Selby.
Thanks are due not only to Morrisons, but also to Tesco and Sainsburys for their continuing support of Burn's Big Lunch, now in its 9th year.
