The search is on for young pantomime stars of the future to join the nation’s longest running consecutive panto dame Berwick Kaler and the regular team in this year’s York Theatre Royal Christmas production Jack & The Beanstalk.

Open auditions are being held in the De Grey Rooms on Saturday, 30 September for budding performers aged 8 to 11 and under 5ft tall.

Group auditions will involve singing, dancing and acting.

The creative team would like to cast enthusiastic and active youngsters with acting, singing and dancing talent to take part in this year’s panto.

The youngsters will share a stage with dame Berwick and the rest of the beloved panto team including Martin Barrass, David Leonard, Suzy Cooper and AJ Powell.

Young people who can make a strong commitment to the rehearsals and performance of this year’s pantomime are encouraged to audition.

Rehearsals start in November and will mainly take place on evenings and weekends.

Two teams of young people will perform alternate shows between Thursday 14 December 2017 and Saturday 3 February 2018, which will include some midweek matinees during term time. There are no performances on Sundays or Christmas Day, but anyone interested in taking part must be available for all other shows.

Artistic Director Damian Cruden said:

“Now’s the chance for young panto fans to show off their talent at auditions for a place in the panto cast.

We’re always excited by the range of talent displayed by the young people.”
