Seriously Dead comes to Grand Opera House
A hilarious musical comedy following the lives and deaths! of a bunch of people thrown together by chance.
Seriously Dead is a hilarious musical comedy following the lives and deaths! of a bunch of people thrown together by chance.
Starring Crissy Rock, Tommy Cannon, Leah Bell and Billy Pearce, the idea for the show began during long car journeys while they were touring together in the play Dirty Dusting.
Funny stories and anecdotes helped to pass the time travelling between theatres and Crissy and Leah quickly realised they could work together in and acting and writing capacity so began looking for a subject on which they could base a new play.
Leah remembered having a conversation with an old friend Mike Redway, an established singer/songwriter who had previously mentioned a desire to be involved in the writing of a musical
A meeting was arranged and after listening to several songs composed by Mike, one caught their attention.
The lyrics were very witty, and one line struck a chord. “Am I seriously Dead?”

Everyone felt this had to be the title of their new project.
Combining Mikes natural ability to combine both clever and witty lyrics with Crissy and Leah’s’ comedic skills it was inevitable that their first venture together would be a new comedy play complete with original score.
“We are totally chalk and cheese as people”, laughs Leah, “But Crissy says things that make me roar with laughter, and I know that she thinks that I’m a bit off-the-wall too.
You know what it’s like, you swap stories and ideas, and slowly, as we shared experiences and tales about the people we’d known and the places we’d been, everything seemed to evolve.
It’s very much a collaborative effort. Crissy always says that she has the yarns, I put them into order with a narrative – and I add the commas and apostrophes in the right places!”
The show has created a massive following wherever the show has been staged as can be seen by the hundreds of comments on Facebook – some begging Leah to bring the show back to a nearby theatre!
Seriously Dead will make it’s first appearance in York at the Grand Theatre and the audience is assured of a side splitting romp!
“Well if that’s what it’s like when you get to The Pearly Gates – I can’t wait to go!”
One audience member's comment as he left the theatre!
