York Racecourse set for season finale

The final race weekend of 2016 at the Knavesmire starts today with seven races scheduled.

The final race weekend of the season starts today, with the £50,000 stanjames.com handicap the top prize.

Gary Moore trained Guns of Leros is the favourite for that race, which will be at 3.25pm, with odds of 5/1. 

That same race sees Tony Martin, who was the winning trainer in the showpiece £280,000 race at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival in August, enter Landsman for his first race over a mile and a half. 

There are 14 races in total over the weekend, and with 32 entries Richard Fahey will aim to seal the top trainer at York award.

Fahey, who is from Malton, has a three-winner lead over the chasing pack  with eight victories so far in 2016.

Meanwhile Andrea Atzeni and Frankie Dettori will battle to be named York's best jockey of the year, they have seven winners each so far. 

The racing starts at 1.45pm today and at 2pm on Saturday.
