Thirsk Falcons FC Celebrates Becoming One Club

Thirsk Falcons Exec Committee

SHARE THIS STORY:

Published at 2:50pm 10th July 2017.

Thirsk Falcons Juniors and Thirsk Falcons Seniors is now one club!

The executive committee has been restructured and expanded to incorporate the changes at the last AGM.

The club is now the largest sports club in Thirsk comprising junior and senior football teams and offers inclusive football from 3yrs to adults.

The club is in the process of registering over 20 teams for the new season, including 2 senior teams and a new u17/18 team.

The club also has plans to launch new sessions for girls to get into football in partnership with North Yorkshire Soccer Academy.

It is hoped this may lead to the development of girls teams playing across all the age groups and ultimately a senior women’s side.

The club is also planning to relaunch the disability football sessions in partnership with The Dales School. With the support of North Yorkshire Sport last year the club set up an after school satellite club introducing individuals of all ages with varying disabilities into football.

The satellite club was a great success and will be relaunched after the summer holidays.

Wayne Sowden said

“This season has been one of the most successful seasons to date, not only on the field but behind the scenes. A lot of work has happened off the field to develop the infrastructure to support a sustainable club.

We have a growing army of DBS checked, enthusiastic well qualified coaches and volunteers who are ready to move the club the forward.

There is a buzz about teams from Thirsk and over the last couple of seasons we have found we are attracting players from all around the region.

We aim to build on this with the support of our valuable sponsors to bring semi pro football to Thirsk and create a strong culture of football for young and old”

Geoff Garbutt Thirsk Falcons president said

“Today marks a new era for football in Thirsk. Over the years we have discussed the idea of joining the juniors and seniors to create 'One Club' and we have now achieved that.

We have created a better opportunity to develop our talented players and support our senior team with an abundance of talent coming up from the youth teams as well as moved forward our overall plans to benefit everyone in Thirsk and the surrounding villages,”

The club continues to be a committed partner in the Sowerby gateway project and continues discussions with all partners regarding the gateway development. Currently the club utilises pitches at the Racecourse, Thirsk School and the Flatts, however the club will continue to work closely with the Council, sponsors and landowners to explore options for a home for Thirsk Falcons to include a 1st team pitch, stadium and club house.
