VIDEO - British Racing launches push to attract under 18s in Yorkshire

With the summer holidays just weeks away, Great British Racing, the sport’s promotional body, has launched its biggest ever national under 18s campaign to encourage more families to take advantage of free entry for children and young people at racecourses across the country - including across most of Yorkshire’s nine racecourses, Beverley, Catterick, Doncaster, Pontefract, Redcar, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby and York.
It’s a little-known fact that under 18s go free to almost every British racecourse on almost every raceday, making a day at the races a unique family day out that won’t break the bank.
There are more than 200 racedays up and down the country over the school holidays and amongst these are 58 special family days, with additional activities put on for families and young people.
There are a host of family racing events taking place in the Yorkshire region this summer, kicking off with Redcar’s Help for Heroes Family Day on Sunday 23 July, featuring a range of exciting activities for the family alongside some great racing. Children under 17 go completely free of charge and adult tickets start at just £6. Other events taking place in Yorkshire include:
• Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival Family Day, Pontefract Racecourse, Sunday 30 July: The Go Racing in Yorkshire Festival comes to a close at Pontefract Racecourse, with plenty of entertainment for all the family
• Children’s Day, Ripon Racecourse, Monday 7 August: A fantastic way to introduce our children to the exciting world of horseracing, with activities including a visit from the Riggamoor Mini Farm and a free ice cream for every child
• Salute Our heroes Family Day, Catterick Racecourse, Tuesday 8 August: An exciting of free entertainment accompanies the racing, including bouncy castles, boxing classes with former world champion, Charles ‘The Bull’ Shepherd and a chance to win some fantastic prizes in the ‘Heroes’ themed fancy dress competition
• Caribbean Carnival Day, Redcar Racecourse, Saturday 12 August: The Paradise Steel Band will be performing throughout the day, with pirates also making an appearance to teach pirate chants and relay stories of life on the open wave
• Family Day, Ripon Racecourse, Monday 14 August: Featuring a celebration of all things ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with a host of extra entertainment for under 18s
• Star Wars Family Day, Thirsk Racecourse, Tuesday 15 August: A themed day with a host of extra entertainment for families
• The Sunday Service Family Day, Pontefract Racecourse, Sunday 20 August: Family friendly raceday with extra entertainment for all
• James Herriot ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Family Day, Thirsk Racecourse, Monday 21 August: A unique day with fun and entertainment for all the family
• Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival, York Racecourse, 23-26 August: An incredible racing festival with some of the country’s best racing and some of the very best entertainment laid on for all
• A Sunday Hop, Beverley Racecourse, Sunday 27 August: This special bank holiday family raceday includes funfair rides and stalls, live folk music, and a beer festival
• Bank Holiday Family Day, Ripon Racecourse, Monday 28 August: Featuring plenty of entertainment for all the family
• Family Fun Day, Catterick Racecouse, Wednesday 30 August: Another day in the summer calendar where families can enjoy the racing and extra entertainment to keep the younger ones entertained throughout the day
• Pirates Family Day, Thirsk Racecourse, Friday 1 September: A special pirate-themed raceday with fun for all the family
• Family Sunday, York Racecourse, Sunday 10 September: Featuring an interactive racing zone, bouncy castles and a visit from Paddington Bear, this special day has something on offer for all the family
VIDEO - X factor stars Reggie ’n’ Bollie back the push with this video
Reggie ’n’ Bollie have showcased their rap skills in a unique ‘Hip Clop’ video, challenging youngsters to put their commentary skills to the test for the chance to win an amazing set of prizes, including an iPad and virtual reality headset.
