The fixtures list for the York City Knights' Super 8s campaign has been released.
They start their Kingstone Press League 1 Super 8s campaign with what will be their biggest home game of the season, when they take on the Toronto Wolfpack.
Head Coach James Ford said:
“We didn’t do ourselves justice there last time – especially in the second half.
“Toronto was definitely the most physically demanding game we’ve had this season, but I said after that game that I would fancy our chances against them on our own patch, with the loud Knights fans behind us.
“We’re very capable of raising our levels against them – we want to do ourselves justice this time. If we can pack Bootham Crescent to the rafters, I’m convinced that we can push them all the way.”
The Super 8s format is now in its second season in League 1.
The regular rounds of fixtures saw the 16 teams play each other either home or away, with the top eight now going into the Super 8s and the bottom eight competing for the League 1 Shield.
Points from the regular season are carried over into the Super 8s, at the end of which the top placed team is immediately promoted as Champions to the Kingstone Press Championship. Positions two to five then go into semi-finals vying for a second promotion place.
Said Ford:
“We’ve given ourselves a good opportunity to finish as high as possible in the Super 8s by being in the top four and getting an extra home game – it is a phenomenal achievement considering where we started from in January.”
“With the Super 8s, every game to the end of the season now matters. We need to focus on us now and how we apply ourselves.
“We’ll take each game as it comes throughout the Super 8s but we look forward to getting into the rest of the top eight teams again.”
