Sunday sees York City Knights begin their promotion push as the Kingston Press League One Super 8s get underway.
York begin the seven-match run with a home tie against Toronto Wolfpack, kick-off is at 3pm.
The Knights, who finished fourth in the regular season, need to at least finish in the top five to have a chance of promotion.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, head coach James Ford was keen to remain realistic about York's chances:
“We’re still not getting carried away, we know that every team in the 8s is good. Obviously, Toronto have been right up there, we know we’ve got a lot of improvement left in us and hopefully we can show that on Sunday.”
“We’ll probably look at tweaking one or two things this week, but our philosophy on the weekend will be exactly the same – probably similar to what Toronto’s will be. We’ll come out and try and attack with the ball and we won’t die wondering.”
Toronto have been flawless to this point in the season and are favourites to take the automatic promotion spot, coach Ford admitted that the match will be a huge test for his side.
“We like a challenge at York and we know that Toronto are the best team in the competition, you can’t hide from that. They’ve won 15 out of 15 and they’ve been incredibly convincing in them all. You look at some of the names on the back of their shirts, we can’t wait to get out there on Sunday and play against them.”
York Second row Adam Robinson said the players were looking forward to taking on the Canadians:
“As soon we won that final game and realised we’d secured fourth place the first thoughts were ‘we get a crack at Toronto at home’. A couple of us boys didn’t manage to get out there [for the previous fixture] and its games like this you really want to play in.”
“Getting the opportunity to have another go at it is lifting all the boys and we’re ready.”
