Police have been involved.

York City FC have issued a statement after an incident at the weekend.

We would also remind supporters that pitch encroachment is both a breach of ground regulations and an offence under the Football (Offences) Act 1991."

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:

“In regard to an incident which occurred at Altrincham FC, when a fan attempted to run onto the pitch and made verbal threats towards York City staff, North Yorkshire Police Football Liaison Officers have been working closely with the club and enquiries are currently being made into the matter.

"We will continue to work closely with York City FC to ensure the safety of all who attend to watch the game and those who represent the club.

"Any verbal or physical threats made within or outside of the grounds will be taken seriously and dealt with appropriately."
