Local Hero Awards 2020
Minster FM's Local Hero Awards supported by York Festival
Every year Minster FM celebrates the achievements of North Yorkshire's most inspirational people in our Local Hero Awards.
Our 2020 awards were held at York Racecourse on Friday 28th February 2020.
Our Chosen Charity
The Island
The Island is a York based charity which offers one-to-one 'islands of space and time' mentoring to vulnerable children and young people between the ages of 8 to 13, and 8 to 18 for those with additional needs.
The Island selects, trains and supervises volunteer mentors who make a commitment to meet regularly over the course of a year, to engage the young people in positive activities and help build their confidence and self-esteem.
The Island also runs 4 youth groups, a school based mentoring programme, food distribution and holiday provision through a flat bestowed to the charity in Bridlington.
