YORK
Whilst much of the centre of York is dominated by the big, well-known chains, there are still plenty of thriving and vibrant independent businesses across the city, whether in the centre itself or out towards York's suburbs. So take a closer look, and be proud to support your local businesses...
Acorn Meats is a traditional family-run butchers shop which has been open since 1974. They provide a wide range of quality meats and homemade meat products from their shop in Acomb on Front Street.
They also stock bacon, gammon, burgers, a great BBQ selection, home cooked pies, and sausages rolls. Their handmade sausages are always popular and the promotions counter has some outstanding offerings, including an extended 3 for £10 range and 2 for £5 selection. All meat is cut, prepared and packed to your requirements. Telephone and Facebook orders are very welcome.
Classic Carpets of York pride themselves on their range of floor coverings. They hope that you will be pleasantly spoilt for choice, and come away with just what you want.
They also offer expertise to help you by trying to match up carpets with something that you bring in to indicate your colour preferences. It's a truly family run firm which has been trusted by local people since they opened in 1987.

Toymaster, York is an independently run toy shop to the heart of York City, just off Parliament Street, and has brought back a traditional hands-on approach to gift buying that is often lost in catalogue-stores or online.
Toymaster provides children with a destination for all their low-cost collectables and gives them an environment in which to be inspired – whether that’s to save up for that big LEGO set or to make that Airfix aeroplane!
