As part of Dementia Awareness week the team at Minster FM have been back to school.
Minster FM is the area's leading commercial radio station and as such our staff come into contact with hundreds of people every week. We wanted everyone who works with us to become a Dementia Friend. We hope that this initiative will help us communicate better with and work effectively with people living with dementia.
Dementia is the name for a number of diseases which affect the brain, and with an ageing population, more and more of us will live with, or know someone living with dementia.
Five key things we found out:-
- Dementia is not a natural part of the ageing process.
- Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain.
- It is not just about losing your memory.
- It is possible to live well with it
- There is more to the person than the dementia.
You too can find out about becoming a dementia friend at www.dementiafriends.org.uk
