Four schools in York have been chosen to share £82,000 to help pupils have access to out of school activities.
York High, Hob Moor Community Primary, Westfield Primary Community and Woodthorpe Primary will be subsidise until August 2010.
It means young people, who's families can't afford the extra courses, will be given the chance to get involved.
Following the first year, which will act as a pilot, funding will increase to near half a million and will be made available to all schools.
