York City have today completed the signing of experienced defender Danny Holmes from National League North table-toppers AFC Fylde.
The 27-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the season at Bootham Crescent and could be in line to make his debut against Eastleigh on Saturday.
Beginning his career at hometown club Tranmere Rovers at the age of seven, Holmes progressed through the youth system at Prenton Park, before signing professional terms in 2007.
Shortly upon turn pro, the 6ft 0in defender was sent out on loan to then National League North side Southport where he played 18 times, before returning to Rovers and making his one and only appearance ahead of his release at the end of the 2008/09 campaign.
A move to Welsh side The New Saints soon materialised, and he remained at the club for two seasons, being named in the Welsh Premier League Team of the Season at the end of his first campaign.
In June 2011 Holmes returned home and re-signed for Tranmere Rovers and after a short spell away with Fleetwood Town, went on to make 144 appearances for the club in four seasons in League One and League Two.
After leaving Penton Park for a second time in 2015, Holmes joined League Two side Newport County and played 37 times in all competitions before joining AFC Fylde in the summer.
