Karen Boldison and Gary Brookes had planned an event in memory of those who fought overseas and on the home front during the last war.
It would have had its focus on the sacrifices made by many people from the City of York, specifically during the Baedeker Raids of 1942. This was the worst air raid on the city during the war and many people were killed or injured.
Karen Boldison's former mother-in-law was one of the victims. In fact her family thought she was dead when an unexploded bomb smashed through the house on Rose Street on that April night. She was taken to the mortuary but she woke up later.
It was planned for the weekend of the 18th to the 20th August 2017

The last week has been very difficult for us and has been spent contacting everyone who is directly involved with York In The Blitz; on this point we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to them for their kind words, support and understanding.
Now that they have been contacted, it is with a heavy heart that we write the following:
There comes a time when even the most robust of us has to admit defeat and therefore, it is with mixed emotions that we have to inform you that the York In The Blitz event has been cancelled!
The reason for our decision has more layers than an onion but in a nutshell, we have had suppliers increase their prices by up to 400%, we have jumped through every hoop that we have been asked to jump through and still they keep rolling in our direction.
We have cut our way through miles of red tape, we have had sponsors back out, goalpost (which were set by “those who must be obeyed) moved so many times that we have given up counting.
There have been rumours on the 1940s circuit that the event has been cancelled which has filtered through the ranks and resulted in some getting cold feet.
For the above, and other reasons, which are simply too long winded to go into, we have no alternative other than to cancel the event.
It goes without saying that all monies paid to us for dance tickets will be reimbursed as soon as possible and we will be in touch with those effected in the next day or two.
We can only apologise for this inconvenience and ask that you understand that this decision has not been reached easily.
