Today (March 31st) York’s Chocolate Story is celebrating its sixth birthday.
Here are six mind-blowing facts you never knew about chocolate:
Every year, York produces 80,000 tons of chocolate, which is five times the weight of York Minster’s central tower.
In 2013, York’s Chocolate Story produces the world’s spiciest bar of chocolate. Measuring 5,000,000 on the Scoville scale, the “treat” had the heat levels as pepper spray!
In theory, chocolate will never go off! Due to the lack of moisture, bacteria will not grow in chocolate. BUT It’s still not recommended to bury your Kit Kat for 1000 years before eating it.
245 Smarties are made every second. That’s 7,726,320,000 every year.
Each Easter, the UK consumes just over 90 million Easter eggs! That’s 1.3 eggs per person.
The first selection boxes were so luxurious, nowadays they would cost around £1000.
The attraction – based in King’s Square, York - is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to show guests how special and unique York’s sweet heritage is.
Happy Birthday York Chocolate Story from all at Minster FM.
