Thirsk’s new season gets underway this Saturday (13th April) with the first-race timed for 2pm, and this popular North Yorkshire racecourse will stage a total of sixteen fixtures including the season’s finale on Monday 16th September.
Closed-season developments that racegoers patronising the Premier Enclosure may like to try include a dedicated new gin section, in the ‘Gin & Fizz Bar’; and a new seafood bar, christened ‘The Shrimp’, in what was formerly the Owners & Trainers building.
This has been made possible by the creation of the brand new Owners & Trainers Stand, which was completed in the autumn at a cost of £1.8m and will be opening its doors for its first race meeting this weekend.
2019 raceday highlights include:
the £40,000 Cliff Stud Thirsk Hunt Cup on Saturday 4th May;
‘Irish Day’ on Saturday 18th May;
the £30,000 William Hill Thirsk Summer Cup on Saturday 3rd August;
an evening meeting featuring live music from the chart-topping band Scouting For Girls after racing on Friday 16th August;
two August family-racedays (9th and 30th);
and Thirsk’s ever-popular ‘Ladies’ Day’ meeting on Saturday 7th September.
On track, Clerk of the Course James Sanderson is hoping for this year’s racing action to be as competitive as ever, and said:
“ Last season Thirsk broke the £1m barrier with its prize money and we shall be doing that again in 2019.
The track is in fantastic condition.
We’re expecting a cool but fair week ahead and a busy day both on and off the track come Saturday! “
