York City Knights have moved to strengthen their back line options by bringing in experienced half back Cain Southernwood from Hunslet on an initial one month loan.
26 year old Southernwood has played more than 100 games for Whitehaven and Batley Bulldogs in the Betfred Championship, and starred for Hunslet in 2018.
He is a product of the Wakefield Trinity academy system, and played in Super League for Bradford Bulls.
He joins the Knights after a demanding Easter schedule of tough fixtures and will help cover the loss of Ben Cockayne, who has been ruled out for 8 weeks after a scan on his knee.
Knights Head Coach James Ford said:
“Cain comes with plenty of Championship experience and a desire to get back playing to his best.
He has the potential to be a quality player for the Knights if his attitude towards hard work and attention to detail is where it needs to be.
I'd like to thank Darren Williams and Gary Thornton for facilitating the move."
Cain comes into contention for the Knights squad when they travel to the south of France this weekend to take on second placed Toulouse Olympique in a tough game in the Betfred Championship this Saturday.
