Rod Stewart is in town this weekend and around 30,000 people are expected to come to see him.
This will mean some disruption to road in the city.
Chris Ward, York Racecourse spokesman on music events, said:
“The Knavesmire has played host to many great events including Royal Ascot at York, The papal Mass of Pope John Paul II, the Olympic Torch relay,
The Grand Depart of the Tour de France and now we are excited that Rod Stewart is set to perform his first ever concert in York.”
This is Rod’s first UK tour in three years following the success of two sold-out tours in 2016 – The UK Hits Stadium Tour and the arena tour “From Gasoline Alley to Another Country Hits.”
The stage has been built on the Knavesmire and is seen from Oliver Webb's Hot Air Balloon.
Rod Stewart Live In Concert will see Rod play the following dates:
• Sat 1 June York, York Racecourse
• Tues 4 June Milton Keynes, Stadium MK
• Fri 7 June Ipswich, Portman Road Stadium
• Sat 8 June Wolverhampton, Molineux Stadium
• Wed 12 June Aberdeen, AECC
• Fri 14 June Bolton, University of Bolton Stadium
Unlike other racecourse music events later in the year, this will be an all seated event.
As many as 30,000 people are expected to attend the event between 4pm and midnight.
Roads in the area are expected to be very busy.
The council and event organisers have implemented a traffic management plan, similar to the one used on busy race-days, which will be in place from 2pm.
If you are attending the event, a frequent shuttle bus service between York Station and the racecourse will be operating from 16:00 until the end of the event.
Traffic heading to the event will be directed from the A64 via Tadcaster Road, Sim Balk Lane and Bishopthorpe Road.
Parking is available at the racecourse site- the main car parks will be accessible from Bishopthorpe Road, Campleshon Road and Knavesmire Road.
Please follow directional signage rather than your sat-nav.
A temporary one-way system around the racecourse will permit traffic to head in a northbound direction only.
This will be in place on Bishopthorpe Road from 14:00-20:00 and Knavesmire Rd from 14:00-01:00.
Shuttle buses are running at peak demand times from York Station costing £2 each way or £3 return. First York is also running extra buses from Askham Bar Park and Ride.
