When Tony Wright, from York, died suddenly last week his family were left to cope with the sudden loss of a dearly loved dad and grandfather.
They were also left with the fact that the was no cash for a funeral.
It's a situation many grieving relatives have to face and and highlights the staggering cost of saying goodbye.
With no insurance or savings the family were at a loss as how to pay around £4,000 for a service that he would have wanted.
A cousin suggested trying crowd funding for the single dad who, was just 53-year-old, and was a huge Leeds United football fan.
Eldest daughter Katie didn't believe it would work but her cousin said it was worth a try.
They wrote this on the crowdfunding site
"Dad sadly passed away on the 2nd of May 2020 at the young age of 53.
He was a fantastic father bringing up two daughters on his own while working and also helping raise his grandchildren.
Tony loved his family and spending as much time with them.
His other big love was none other than following his beloved football team Leeds United.
A fantastic family man who will be missed by so many.
As everyone may know especially in these current times finances aren’t the best.
We are not asking for masses off amounts of money but just what ever you feel comfortable donating to help give Tony the send of and burial he deserves.
Thank you for taking your time to read."
You don't know what this means to us - Thank you!
His daughter Katie told Minster FM that she and her sister Emily and the whole family are overwhelmed by the help that they have received so far from friends and the public in general.
73 people have donated over £1,500 towards the total cost of the funeral at the crowdfunding page.
LISTEN - Katie went on Minster FM to say Thank you!
She said:
It was so unexpected and I thought we would only get a couple of hundred pounds.
He was a single Dad to me and my sister and I can't believe how many people have been willing to help us out.
Thank you so much.
You don't know what this means to take one worry away from us at a time like this.
We will now be able to give him the send off that he would want"
