New signs have appeared in York aimed at stopping tossers .. of litter that is.
For once it appears that something the City of York council has done is REALLY popular!
Well apart from one letter to The Press in York from Geoff Robb in Dunnington who wasn't amused.
HE called for bigger waste-bins and branded the council campaign 'puerile'
But others have been more positive:
Here's a few comments:

What is less humorous and most offensive?
The signs or the amounts of litter left behind when people have been meeting up?

It was successful in New Zealand

Fantastic way to tackle a pressing issue (litter pickers out in force this morning according to @JonnyPolitics
humour gets the point across effectively and memorably but it was never going to please everyone!

Great to see some humour - hopefully it does the trick - they made us smile whilst we made them! #dontbeatosser

I think this is brilliant !! Really wish @ScarboroCouncil plastered these on the beach railings and sea walls

I’ve only just spotted it (being banded around positively on twitter nationally). It’s had me chuckling, but I suspect the litter louts will struggle reading and understanding

I think it works well. Just because Geoff from Dunnington seems like he has had a humour bypass, maybe he’s not the target audience? I’ve seen too many tossers at Clifton Moor just dumping their McDonalds bags out of the windows of their Ford Focus and driving off.
Cllr Denise Craghill, executive member for safer communities and housing at City of York Council, said earlier this week:
“As lockdown lifts, understandably people want to meet up.
Many have been great at social distancing but some forget to take their litter home – and we want them to be great at clearing up after themselves too.
Tossing litter about is not on, so we’ve put posters where the tossers have been including Tower Gardens, Clifton Ings, Millennium Bridge and Fields.
We wanted a high-impact campaign to grab people’s attention and, inspired by campaigns from New Zealand and Keep Britain Tidy, we’re getting it!
We’ve had lots of positive feedback, and partners want to share the posters.
But most of all, we don’t want people to be tossers: take your litter back home and don’t leave a dangerous eyesore for others to pay to clean up.”
