City of York Council is celebrating St John’s Day by encouraging residents to show their support for St John's Ambulance.
As part of this effort, the city’s walls will be lit green this evening (Wednesday 24th June).
St John Ambulance staff and volunteers have spent over 100,000 hours supporting the COVID-19 crisis response since the beginning of April, its biggest mobilisation of volunteers since the second World War.
To get involved, residents and businesses are encouraged to show their support by displaying lights, flags or banners in their windows and gardens.
Cllr Darryl Smalley, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure & Communities said:
“I’m delighted we are able to support St John’s Ambulance tomorrow on St John’s Day. The work they do, particularly through the coronavirus crisis, has been invaluable and it’s right we celebrate and highlight their work.
I encourage residents and businesses across York to show their support once again to thank the St John’s Ambulance volunteers by lighting and dressing York green on Wednesday 24 June.”
