The world famous city walls in York will be open again from Saturday July 4, with a temporary one-way system in place to enable social distancing.
It will run clockwise, with clear signage being placed by the council at all entry and exit points to ensure visitors can easily identify where they can access the walls safely.
The original walls were built by the Roman’s in 71AD, and they didn’t have social distancing in mind back then! That means the usual two-way traffic would be unsafe at the moment.
Over a million people take a walk through 1,900 years of history on the walls every year and it's hoped residents and visitors will continue to enjoy them again in July, but don't forget you can only go one-way.
