With further lockdown restrictions easing on July 4th, some businesses in York are preparing to re-open with changes in place to make sure they are safe.
The lifting of the restrictions will be welcomed by businesses across the city, the council though now want specific guidance in place.
Licensed premises are able to reopen and serve alcoholic drinks from July 4th. As takeaway sales of alcoholic drinks are permitted for smaller businesses not able to use indoor space due to social distancing measures.
Cllr Ashely Mason, Chair of the Licensing and Regulatory Committee, said:
"We welcome the Government's announcements, which will allow York's hospitality sector to reopen after months of closure, however the Government needs to urgently clarify its guidance so that we can ensure these premises can re-open safely.
"It is crucial that the Government considers the unintended impacts of the proposed changes and issues further guidance to the Council and Police on how we can make sure that residents are protected and can enjoy the city safely.
"I'd like to thank council staff and the Police, who have been busy keeping our city safe and tidy. Whilst we welcome people returning to enjoy all that our beautiful city has to offer, we encourage everyone to stay safe, drink responsibly and be considerate towards others."
