The Wizard of Oz
23 June 7.30pm, 24 June 2.30pm and 7.30pm
This wonderful classic tale comes to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre this June.
The RSC version plays close to the original film and features all the popular songs such as ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ‘We’re off to see the Wizard’.
Audience members will delight in visiting Kansas and Oz as they follow Dorothy, played by 13 year old Indie Star Ramsay-Wilson (of CBBC fame) on her journey following the yellow brick road.
They will meet the most loyal group of friends including Scarecrow (Meg Badrick), Tin Man (John Hawker) and not forgetting the Cowardly Lion (Mike Kimpton).
Adults and children alike will want to hide in their seats when they meet the Wicked Witch of the West (Kelly Burley), who, complete with cackle and green face paint, is a perfect casting.
And not forgetting there will be cuteness abound when the sweetest little dog in all of Oz steals the show.
Toto is played by Reggie, the Shiz Tsu and away from the stage is owned by the Wicked Witch! In keeping with ‘We Are Theatre’s inclusive policy the cast ranges in age from five years old to adults, who will sing and dance their way into your hearts as they take you along the Yellow Brick Road.
This We Are Theatre Production features Musical directors Jess Douglas and Lee Saltmer, choreographers Beth North and Abbie Brownlee and a live band made up from musicians across York.
The show is suitable for all ages and tickets can be bought now from The Joseph Rowntree Box Office (01904) 501935
