Badly Drawn Boy set to join The Shires at Yorfest 2017

With tickets already selling fast for this year's eagerly anticipated Yorfest, fans of the enigmatic singer-songwriter Badly Drawn Boy will be delighted to hear that he's heading to York for this year's open air live music spectacular at the city's Racecourse.

In a line-up which already boasts a headlining slot from the folk duo sensation, The Shires, the multi instrumentalist, renowned for his indie folk tinged festival friendly summer anthems – has been confirmed for the event which will take place on Saturday 23 September.

Announced as a special guest to The Shires, 2017's UK country superstar headliners, Badly Drawn Boy – real name Damon Gough - will be bringing his genius alternative pop to the fields of Yorkshire once again, with yet more lineup surprises on the way.

It was June 2000 when the Mercury Prize-winning, seminal ‘The Hour of the Bewilderbeast’, announced the arrival of the badly drawn genius of the man himself.

Since then, Badly Drawn has gone on to release four subsequent studio albums, spawning a wave of chart-topping UK indie hits that include the likes of 'Once Around The Block', 'You Were Right' and the beautiful, melancholic ensemble that is 'The Shining'.

And, as if that wasn't enough, Badly Drawn Boy’s soundtrack to the 2002 film About A Boy, starring Hugh Grant, remains one of Badly Drawn Boy’s most critically acclaimed and successful albums (certified Gold in the UK) and spawned two hit singles, ‘Silent Sigh’ and ‘Something To Talk About’.

Speaking about Yorfest's latest announcement, Bryan Stubbs, the event's festival programmer, said:

“We are once again thrilled to be adding such a talent as Badly Drawn Boy to our expanding 2017 line up, along with some of the other national touring acts we are due to announce in the coming days, a fantastic bill of local talent is being assembled too.

“We’re really looking forward to the full line up going public shortly, with nearly 30 acts across 3 stages at the event on the day”

In previous years, Yorfest has delivered The Lightning Seeds, The Pigeon Detectives, Slow Readers Club, The Sunshine Underground and many more established artists, so organisers have urged music fans to join them on Bustardthorpe Field on The Knavesmire for a truly unforgettable family day out again this September.

There will be a diverse selection of fine food and drink for sale on site, along with traditional festival fare.

Festival goers can also expect local real ales, a Champagne, Pimms and Prosecco Bars, Candy floss, Doughnuts and more, as well as a Kid's play zone, face painting, and vintage fairground rides.
