Noseda Targets Big Race Triumphs At York

Published at 6:01am 26th July 2013.

Newmarket based trainer Jeremy Noseda is all set for a big two days at York with Reckoning and Grandeur scheduled for stakes races on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Grandeur is on course to line up in this Saturday's £100,000 Group 2 feature, the Sky Bet York Stakes. A most progressive colt last season, he won three times in the UK before ending the year with two Grade 2 victories in America. He also finished second to fellow entry, Unbridled Command, in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby.

Grandeur returned from a break earlier this month, finishing fourth behind Universal in the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket. That was over 12 furlongs and he is dropped back in trip to an extended mile and a quarter for his Knavesmire assignment.

Noseda said: “Grandeur is in very good form and the faster the ground the better for him.

“Realistically, the William Haggas-trained horse (Mukhadram) is going to be very hard to beat, especially with Grandeur having to carry a penalty (for previously winning at Grade 2 level in America).

"But we have a good place chance and if the favourite happened to have an ‘off’ day, I hope he would go close. If he runs well, the plan is to head to the Arlington Million on August 17.”

Noseda is represented by Reckoning in Friday’s feature race on the Knavesmire, the Listed British Stallion Stud Supporting British Racing EBF Lyric Fillies’ Stakes.

The daughter of Danehill Dancer was narrowly beaten in a similar event at Newcastle last time out and Noseda is hopeful she can go one better on Friday.

He added: “Reckoning is in good form. She has previously shown herself to be ideally suited to good or softer going, so I am hoping that there may be a shower or two before the race.

“That said, we’re going to take our chance – I’m happy with her and she was only just touched off on the nod last time. If she can reproduce that then she would have a good chance.”

A field of nine head to post for the extended mile and a quarter £40,000 contest, including the Richard Fahey-trained Ladys First, who finished third in the Betfred Middleton Stakes over course and distance at the Dante Festival in May.

York’s two-day meeting commences, with their only evening fixture, at 6.00pm on Friday, July 26.
