Quinn Quintet Head To York

York Races 2

Published at 7:35am 10th October 2013.

Malton based trainer John Quinn will make the short trip to York Racecourse with a five-strong team to contest this Friday’s intriguing card on the Knavesmire.

Quinn has been in fine form in recent times and it would be no surprise if one or two of his team make their mark at York.

Leading the way is the Lincoln winner Levitate, who tackles the feature This Isn’t ‘The Stan James Champion Hurdle’ Handicap, contested over a mile with £25,000 on offer.

Quinn said: “Levitate is in very good form. He went up 5lb to 98 for winning at Ayr last time but he has run well at York (he was second in 2012 on his only previous course appearance). The softer the ground the better – but he seems very well in himself.”

Talented apprentice Oisin Murphy, successful aboard Levitate at Ayr, will once again take the ride. The 5lb claimer will also be in the saddle for Quinn in the opening race on the card, the six-furlong TSG Nursery. Murphy will be on Makin The Rules, runner-up on both of his last two starts.

Quinn said: “Makin The Rules is a nice horse who was second at York and was then touched off at the Western meeting at Ayr. He seems in good form and the ground will be fine for him.”

Another apprentice Jason Hart, claiming 3lb, will be aboard the Quinn-trained Kashmir Peak for Quinn in the Parsonage Hotel and Cloisters Spa handicap.

Quinn said: “The mile and a half will suit Kashmir Peak, he is in good fettle and will have a good claimer on him.”

The Website Designers Yorkshire Maiden Auction Stakes sees Quinn represented by Bold Captain, who will be having his second career start.

The trainer said: “He was second at Beverley first time out and we like the horse. Being by Captain Rio, any rain would help.”

Friday’s finale is the Future Cleaning Services Apprentice Handicap in which Quinn’s charge Evanescent will bid to complete a three-timer after successes at Pontefract and Ayr.

Quinn said: “He seems to have found his form and all ground comes alike to him.”

With his string running so well at present, Quinn only wishes the season had more than a month left to run.

He said: “It has been a decent year. We had a bit of a drought in the middle of the summer but we’ve had a good back-end. Probably, the year is finishing too soon for us!”

October 11-12 is the last chance for racegoers to enjoy York Racecourse in 2013. Friday is also Countryside Raceday with a host of rural themed additional entertainment, the sporting action begins at 2pm.
