Centreback Steve McNulty has agreed to sign for City after leaving newly-promoted League One club Tranmere Rovers.
McNulty, 35, was captain of the Tranmere side that beat Newport County at Wembley in last month's League Two play-off final.
He has won six promotions with four different clubs - Barrow, Fleetwood Town, Luton Town, and Tranmere - and has clocked up nearly 600 career appearances.
Manager Steve Watson has now completed six permanent transfer deals this summer with McNulty following Andy Bond, Peter Jameson, Dan Maguire, Kieran Green, and Paddy McLaughlin into Bootham Crescent.
