Bardle comes to York on trial

York City Knights are set to have a closer look at a Super League academy product this pre-season after signing Prop Forward Harry Bardle on trial terms.

The 19 year old Cottingham Tigers junior came through the ranks in the City of Hull Academy team, before progressing to make two Super League appearances in 2019 for Hull KR.

He was released as part of a major overhaul by Tony Smith at the end of the season and took up a job away from rugby league, but now has an opportunity to impress and earn himself a Championship contract for 2020.

Knights Head Coach James Ford said:

“Harry is a promising young front rower who has already had a taste of Super League. We have given him an opportunity to impress whilst both parties have a closer look to ensure they have the best chance of making the correct decision. 

Harry has settled in well and is displaying a positive approach to his development. As with any player attitude, coach-ability and commitment are key, and I’m looking forward to seeing him stake his claim for a contract.”

Bardle will join the first team squad for one month and may feature in the Knights pre-season schedule in January, starting at Featherstone on Sunday 5th, before a game at Bootham Crescent against Halifax on Sunday 19th, and finishing with a trip to the Tetley’s Stadium in Dewsbury to take on Bradford Bulls.
