Update on York City Knights double header

York City Knights March 2020

SHARE THIS STORY:

Published at 3:09pm 4th March 2020.

York City Knights say it's with regret that they have to announce that the Betfred Super League & Championship double header on Sunday, March 22nd will no longer be played at the York Community Stadium.

However, they say today, thanks to the support of Sky Sports and the cooperation of all the clubs involved, the event will now take place at Bootham Crescent.

The club have been informed via GLL that the builders, Buckingham Group, have failed to provide the information required for the test events to occur.

Neither party are willing or able to provide new test event dates at this stage.

The event - that was initially scheduled for the Community Stadium when it was first announced in November last year - will feature the Super League fixture between Toronto Wolfpack and Wakefield Trinity (5.15pm KO), and forms part of a Mothering Sunday rugby league double header with the Knights also playing the Betfred Championship round 6 fixture against Featherstone Rovers on the same day (2.45pm KO).

The Wolfpack earned promotion to Super League after beating Featherstone Rovers in the Championship Grand Final last October, but are playing their three home ‘loop’ fixtures in the UK due to the harsh Ontario climate early in the season.

Toronto Wolfpack - who boast stars such as Jon Wilkin, Ricky Leutele and the iconic Sonny Bill Williams - will go head to head with Wakefield Trinity’s Danny Brough, David Fifita and Tom Johnston in a blockbusting encounter, that will be screened live on Sky Sports.

Tickets for the double header are available online from the Knights, as well as from Wakefield and Featherstone ticket offices.

Advance tickets are priced at just £17 for adults and £12 concessions, with Under 16s completely free as ever. That price includes both games, which represents fantastic value for two quality match ups.

Please note that ticket prices on the day will raise to £20 adults and £15 concessions (Under 16s still free), to encourage as many people as possible to purchase in advance and help ensure the most efficient process at the busy Bootham Crescent turnstiles.

We will be contacting all members and those who have purchased hospitality packages for this event in the coming days.

The Knights would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the change in venue.

We share your disappointment and frustration at this outcome, but rest assured that we will work as hard as possible to make this event a success, and showcase our fantastic City to the world.
