Time to Talk Day in North Yorkshire

Time to Talk Day in North Yorkshire

SHARE THIS STORY:

Published by the Minster FM News Team at 11:58am 6th February 2019. (Updated at 12:00pm 6th February 2019)

Mental Health affects around 1 in 4 people, yet people are still ashamed to talk about it.

#TimeToTalkDay on Thursday 7th February is where we're encouraged to talk about Mental Health. This year's Time to Talk Day is all about bringing together the right ingredients, to have a conversation about mental health. Whether that's tea, biscuits. However you do it, make a conversation about mental health.

Local Time to Talk Events

On the day, hundreds of events around the country will be taking place to get people talking about mental health. Check out the events happening across North Yorkshire below...

Tadcaster Fire Station Time to Talk Coffee Club

Tadcaster Fire Station will be opening up their doors with three Time to Talk Coffee Club sessions throughout the day. Pop in, have a brew and have a chat about mental health.

The Coffee Club Sessions will run from:

10am - 12pm

2pm - 4pm

7pm - 9pm

Mind Charity Information Stand at York Hospital

York Mind will be at the York Hospital foyer from 10am - 4pm to chat about mental health. York Mind staff and volunteers will be available to chat about the mental health services in York and help you find out more about Mind. If you have a question about mental health then they will be happy to help!

If you know of any other events happening for Time to Talk in North Yorkshire please let us know and we will add it. You can find a full list of events happening across the Country on the Time to Change Website.

How you can get involved

Getting involved in Time to Talk Day is really easy and is the perfect opportunity to talk about Mental Health. Whether that's talking with your colleagues at work, with your students at school or getting involved on social media. Here are a couple of ways that you can get involved...

Activities

You can get involved in Time to Talk Day by doing an activity on the day. This could be as simple as talking about mental health with your colleagues or creating resources.

Here are a couple of activities to do throughout the day:

Pledge Wall
Set up a board where people can stick up their pledges to change the way we all think and act about mental health.

Quiz
You can do a quiz about mental health. This is a great way to open the conversation. This could be at school, work or even as part of a pub quiz!

Coffee Morning
Why not host a coffee morning so that you can chat about mental health over a cup of tea or coffee? Whether this is at home, workplace or community this is the perfect chance to get people talking.

Posters
Putting up some posters about mental health could help make a difference. You can download posters from time-to-change.org.uk/resources or you could make your own as a fun design activity.

Social Media

Start a conversation about mental health on social media to help get the nation talking! This could be as simple sharing Time to Talk Posts or sharing your own thoughts about mental health. Don't forget to follow #TimetoTalk on Twitter and Instagram to find out what everyone else is talking about too.

This year, people are asked to share their #TimetoTalk ingredient selfies. This could be sharing what ingredients are needed for a good conversation and where that conversation should take place. Whatever you think is needed for a conversation take a picture of it and post it on social media with the #TimetoTalk hashtag.

We really hope you get involved and start the conversation about mental health. Whether that's attending a Time to Talk event or talking about it with friends and family we want you to open up the conversation about mental health.

You find out more information about the day on the Time to Change Website

We'll be supporting the cause all day and remembering popular police officer PC Mick Atkinson, who was found dead at his home by his partner Kelly Taylor in October 2018. Listen at 8.10am Thursday morning to hear our extended interview with Kellie as we look to prevent other families from experiencing the same tragic loss.
