North Yorkshire Police have put out a warning to pedestrians trying to cross the A64 dual carriageway,
Traffic officers posted on social media a picture of a man they spotted standing by the central crash barrier waiting to cross.
It was close to the spot where a man was killed in February, after being struck by three vehicles.
John Michael Harris from Tadcaster died while crossing the A64 close to York racecourse.
In the latest incident, police saw a man dressed in dark clothing and wheeling a bicycle, about to walk across two lanes of traffic.
They said:
"He was stood next to the barrier dressed in dark clothing blending into the shadows, seemingly totally unaware of the danger he was putting himself in.
We went back to look for him but he had gone, luckily making his way across the road.
Please only cross the road at crossing points, when it is safe to do so."
