The Environment Agency has updated its Flood Alerts for parts of North Yorkshire, sayimg the River Ouse has 'peaked' at 2.7 metres on Tuesday morning.
Flood Alerts remain in place for the Ouse in York and the Tidal River Ouse from Naburn Lock to Selby.
In York, the Foss Barrier has been in operation.
Environment Agency spokesman:
"A flood alert remains in force as levels on the Lower River Ouse remain high as a result of recent heavy rainfall in the catchment. Consequently, flooding of roads, riverside footpaths and farmland is expected.
The river level at the Viking recorder in York is currently 2.7m and is peaking and the level at Naburn is 2.3m and is expected to peak mid-morning.
Levels are expected to begin to fall slowly throughout the day but remain high overnight into Wednesday 1/7/20. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast.
Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers. This message will be updated this afternoon, or as we receive updated forecasts."
On Monday, Flood Alerts were issued for the Lower River Ure and Lower River Swale, but these have since been lifted.
A Flood Alert is not as severe as a Flood Warning - it means flooding is possible and people should be prepared.
