Trespassers told to stop swimming at Great Heck quarry

Police in Selby are warning young people against swimming in the old quarry at Great Heck.

Officers were called to the flooded quarry site after reports of youngsters refusing to leave, despite being ordered off by the landowners.

The quarry is private land and people are trespassing.

They say there were more than 40 were there, many of them swimming in the water.

Some were from Great Heck itself, while others had come from as far afield as Selby.

Police say sites like this are very dangerous, with the water being very deep and very cold - despite the soaring temperatures.
