Cake Testers
30th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
Fancy a new job? Pots & Co, the company behind a number of high street chocolate brands is on the hunt for a taste-tester to trial out all of it’s new puddings! Yum yum, where do we sign up?
This weekend is the last chance to donate tins to our Tonne of Tins appeal, we are hoping to reach 3 tonne! And that figure may look even more achievable after some very generous donations this morning whilst Laura and DG were on air! Paul from Station Taxi’s and Lisa from Simply A Party both turned up with a trailer and a van full of tins! We reckon around a quarter of a tonne so we’ll get counting… THANK YOU!
As Ellie Goulding prepares for her wedding at York Minster tomorrow, it has been online today that a 72 year old German tourist has agreed to return a 19th century organ pipe to York Minster 50 years after his pal stole it during a lads holiday! The Minster had no idea it was missing and don’t actually have this organ anymore… but they’ll taker it for their collection! Speaking of Ellie Goulding’s Wedding, our very own Town Crier Ben Fry has been asked to greet the guests! We’ll see what he said when he gets back on Monday morning with Laura from 6am…

Whistling Jen!
29th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
Whistling Jen took over the show today.. Jen called in and had a random request for us: “If I whistle you a tune can you ask your listeners if they know what it is? I’ve not been able to pin point it and its been nagging me for years!” Our listeners got on it, and after about an hour of false alarms including Looney Tunes and Popeye, Dave called in and asked Laura and David to look for the People Like Polo advert. Well, well, well… we only went and found it! Years of relief has now lifted from Jens shoulders, and an hour of being bamboozled paid off for the listeners.
Laura struggled to pronounce Joaquin Pheonix in the showbiz, so Google pronounced in instead – incorrectly as Jacoocoo. Helpful.
And in a Radio Times Poll, Chucklevision has been named the best and most popular Childrens TV show so Laura and David asked for the listeners favourite – Looks like Fraggle Rock and Blue Peter were our winners!

Cool Cave!
28th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
The Great British Bake-off returned to our screens last night and we’re already rooting for Henry! The youngster created a very detailed little hut out of chocolate, but when it game to getting it on top of his cake it collapsed! And it’s fair to say that half of the nation's hearts broke, and the evil half of us were waiting for the disaster!
Another very warm evening with no sleep this week has resulted in a genius invention. Laura got home last night to find that Sam had built a Cool Cave. Using a duvet cover and a fan, the Cool Cave becomes inflated with cold air and its very roomy! Laura and DG might nick the idea and take it to Dragons Den…
And Laura and DG announced yesterday that this morning's Panic would be a guaranteed £1000 question! Susan was so very close to getting that 1k but fell at the final hurdle, naming 3 out of 5 GBBO winners.

Soapbox Stats
27th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
It’s the day after the Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge and we are re-living the highlights in the studio including the Joker Award and of course, the 1st place Fastest Kart! The Joker award went to York Maze as Corny the Chainsaw wielding clown and Grandma with her water pistol and silly spray made sure the crowd and the presenters were soaked! The 1st place kart with a unbelievable time of 31.86 seconds was York Digital Image – Congrats to everyone involved!
It has been revealed that optimists live longer! If you have a sunny disposition you are 70% more likely to live past 85. So Laura and DG challenge the whole of North Yorkshire to have a go at being positive today, lets all live longer!
Turns out getting married at the same time as your sibling can save you around £5k in costs! Think about it, the guests are the same, only one meal to pay for, one venue for 2 couples… Laura was almost sold on this idea until we had a call in from Lainie who actually had a double wedding with her sister and it ended in disaster! There was a fight and the church bell ringing was played from a tape – safe to say the marriage didn’t last long so Laura is gone off the idea.

Things we talked about today…
Today on the Breakfast Show, Ben and Laura ran Tunes for a Tenner! This is for friend of the show Sean Coxhead who is currently battling terminal cancer. As our Local Hero winner last year Sean has been fund-raising for Macmillan and recently his £20,000 target which is fantastic! But we wanted to get some more as every little helps! A massive thank you to everyone who donated money to Sean’s Just Giving page and requested a song – we had a lot of fun playing some wacky and wonderful tunes and all for s great cause!
And it was House Band Friday today! We had local band Solar Bats in today who filled the studio with their instruments and fantastic sound! They will be playing at Fossgate Festival on the 1st September and play in many local venues around York – make sure you check them out on our Facebook Page!

CBBC have caused outrage on Twitter by posting a list of which of their TV Shows are the best. Much loved Chucklevision missed out on being placed in the Legend Tier or even the Top Tier and found itself in the middle tier! Paul Chuckle himself even had to laugh about this atrocity as he commented back on Twitter – we need #JusticeForChuckles! Make sure you have a look at the list on our Facebook page and see if you think the shows are in the right tier!

Wedding Bells!
21st August 2019
Things we talked about today…
Laura had some big news to share today – Sam put a ring on it! Laura and Sam are now engaged! And of course it was whilst she was away surrounded by Donkeys and candles, but she did have to pause the proposal for a nervous toilet break, typical!
Comedy legend Tommy Cannon off of Cannon and Ball spoke to Laura and Ben this morning about his new show that will be raising money for the fantastic cause Snappy! An audience with Cannon and Ball will be an opportunity for people to ask the duo questions about their career and hear their life stories, of course with humour and comedy along the way! The show is at Eversley Park Centre in Sherburn-in-Elmet on 14th September. Just go to our website for more details!
And big Showbiz news – the new Bond film has its title! Releasing in April 2020, the name of the new Bond film will be ‘No Time to Die’ Ben thinks this is a reflection of how overworked James Bond is, you know no time to answer emails, no time to save the world, not even time to die!!

Terrible Tatts!
14th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
It’s Tattoo Removal Day! So Laura and Ben posted on Facebook to find your tattoo disasters! We had everything from an Ali G tattoo to lips on the neck – but Laura’s dad Roger had the most interesting. At 15 he had Pegasus (flying horse?) tattooed on his arm. Until recently when he started to notice it looked like a My Little Pony with wings, complete with comments from his kid rugby team saying ‘is that a Unicorn?’. He has now had it covered up with the complete opposite – a giant black tree and a cobra! What are your tattoo disasters?
Ben has been caught in a Town Crier fashion Faux par. As he was working hard fitting in lots of Town Crier responsibilities before getting set to host the festival on Saturday, he was spotted doing a shout for Theatre Royals 275th Anniversary – in trainers!! The Town Crier, in blue trainers?! This has caused a uproar from the people of York. Goodness Ben, you need to stop doing all this fab volunteering Town Crier work celebrating the fabulous goings on of York and get some proper shoes!
Friend of the show Sean Coxhead is only £3000 away from his target! Sean was diagnosed with Terminal Cancer and ever since he has made it his misson, along with his wife and his Angels, to raise £20,000 for Macmillan. So far £17,000 has been raised, so lets try get him to his target! Donate at Just Giving: Not Serious, Just Cancer. Or stay tuned to find out what fund-raising ideas we have up our sleeve…

Name a baby goat and win!
13th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
Ben and Laura were out yesterday in Easingwold doing Greatest Place trying to find the friendliest place in Minster FM Land! The more flags Laura can get people to wave in 60 seconds, the higher the score. Easingwold managed 12 which is brilliant! BUT one person denied the flag so they didn’t get the 10 bonus points! This puts them firmly in the middle of the table, with Dunnington still at the top with 19!
You must go to Easingwold Maize Maze! Lots to do including the maze, foot gold, inflatables, go karts AND baby goats. Yes you read that correctly, the Maze is the home to two new baby goats! A girl and a boy who Ben and Laura went to visit yesterday. These two gorgeous animals are currently looking for names so we thought we would put it to you, the lovely people of Minster Land! Get to our Facebook page and have a go at naming the goats. Laura will judge and pick the best two names on Friday morning. The lucky winners will get a family pass to Easingwold Maize Maze and a lovely plaque that states the new goats names and who named them! Strong contenders so far being: Selena Goatmez, Vincent Van Goat and Babs Von Hoofington.
Sam was very jealous that Laura went on holiday without him and so decided to wear his swimming trunks at home all week. No swimming, just playing no the PlayStation in trunks as you do. Has anyone else left their partner at home whilst on holiday and got back to find that they have found weird ways to cope?!

York Entrepreneurs take on the Dragons!
12th August 2019
Things we talked about today…
Laura’s back off holiday! She’s got up to all sorts including scuba diving and off-roading – but her highlight was her brother slipping and falling in the baby pool at the hotel, whilst holding a strawberry milkshake. Now as you can imagine strawberry milkshake and pools do not mix. As well as covering Laura and her mum in milkshake, he also managed to contaminate the baby pool with milkshake so much that it was cordoned off for 2 days! Lesson learnt: Don’t use the baby pool if you are an adult and don’t drink bright pink milkshake by the pool!
The Micklegate Soapbox Challenge is coming very soon, on the 26th August! Lots of companies and groups are prepping their Soapbox carts and taking practise runs in anticipation for the big day. Including York Sport Village! They have a Baywatch themed Soapbox and even got Ben to have a go in it on their test run.. apart from nearly crashing into a van it went very well! The video is on our Facebook page, but don’t worry, Ben is not dressed as David Hasselhoff – no speedos involved.
Dragon’s Den started again last night on the tele box and what a way to kick the series off! York Entrepreneurs Katie and Gillain created a sun protection cream/tanning lotion hybrid which promises to protect you from the sun and UV whilst also giving you a helping hand with your fake tan too! And they managed to get a deal with the Dragons! They were on the show this morning to let us know how excited they were about working with Dragon’s Touker and Sara with their £75,000 investment.
