My Glasses, My Glasses!

Things we talked about today…

Ben has had a rant this morning about finding things! His son Nick had lost his glasses, although had the best excuse. ‘If I need my glasses to see, how will I be able to find the glasses!’ he’s not wrong. Laura said that whenever Sam loses anything he just says ‘Where have you put it?’ the blame game!

Things we talked about today…

After yesterday’s big pancake debate, the results are in, and it turns out that 68% of people disagree with Laura, and think that gravy does not go on a pancake as it’s nothing like a Yorkshire Pudding! Nonsense!

The Local Hero Awards are coming up this Friday and Laura has had a fantastic idea for an outfit. As the event is sponsored by York Festival featuring Westlife, Laura is going to come in a white suit with her own stool! Laura wants to look like Molly-Mae from Love Island but Ben thinks she’ll look like Razor Ruddock…

And actual Brendan Cole from Strictly has sent in a fantastic message to all of the couples taking part in Strictly St Leonard’s, he even showed them a little dance move.. and knocked everything off of his shelf!

Things we talked about today…

BIG PANCAKE DEBATE! It’s Pancake Day, and Laura has revealed she has Gravy on her pancakes as they are just flat Yorkshire Puddings! What do you think? You can have your say on our Facebook Page Pancake Poll!

Laura has now chosen her Wedding venue and it is… Carlton Towers! She went to visit with the family last week and it seems it has something for everyone. Her mum enjoyed the comfy sofas and her fiance’s little sister enjoyed laughing at all of the ‘funny-looking’ statues.

Ben has been away this weekend and took his Mum for her birthday. Ben’s mum is the type of lady that loves to be prepared for any event so carries a big back-pack full of solutions! However, on this trip, the back-pack was the cause of the problem! She fell over and because the back-pack was so heavy she couldn’t get back up – she had turtled!

Fish in the Ceiling!

Lots of Travel issues this morning due to the weather – Snow and Sleet making journeys difficult along with some roads still being closed due to Flooding. For the latest flooding and weather information go to minsterfm.com

Laura went home for the weekend and her parents had a leek in the ceiling! They placed a bucket underneath and in the morning found a fish in it! After a few hours of thinking that the fish had come through the roof, they then realised that Laura’s brother had used the bucket the night before to remove a dead fish from his fish tank…

A Bride has gone viral this morning as she sent a sassy thank you card to one of her wedding guests saying ‘thank you for attending our wedding, it was an honour to share the entitlement of wearing a white dress with you’ Laura insists she wouldn’t be bothered if someone went to her wedding in a white dress… what do you think?

It’s House Band Friday and we’ve had Pop Rock band KissKissKill in with us today! They performed their original song LSRS and you can check them out on our Facebook Page!

DG has remembered a random Road Safety competition that he used to do at school, he’s not quite sure if he’s dreamt it, but the listeners seemed to agree with him! There was some sort of Road Safety tournament apparently… the 80’s were weird.

NICKY FROM WESTLIFE!

Laura had the best day ever today as the long anticipated interview with Nicky Byrne from Westlife was aired. He has now agreed to play ukulele at her Wedding! You can Listen Again from 8:10am this morning, or better yet, get your tickets to see Westlife at York Festival @ www.york-festival.com 

Ben wants to teach Nick how to ride a Bike and would love to enlist the help of Laura’s fiancé Sam after hearing the story this morning. Apparently Sam made Laura ride on the back of his bike to get to the car quicker, it was a nightmare, she got cramp and her show fell off.

Viking Fashion!

Things we talked about today…

The BRIT Awards were held last night and we can’t get enough of the antics from the event! Lizzo, Harry Styles and Jack Whitehall had us laughing with Jack accidentally spilling red wine all over Harry Styles’ Yellow suit! The winners included Mabel, Billie Eilish, Lewis Capaldi and Dave.

The Jorvik Viking Festival is on in York for the whole of this week and Laura got to try her hand at being a Judge for the Viking Fashion Show. She admits she has no knowledge of fashion or Vikings, but was judging purely on the sass down the catwalk.

Big announcement news! York Racecourse have announced their final act for the Music Showcase on the 27th June, and it’s the ABBA tribute – Bjorn Again! The badges are on sale now for a full day of fun.

Accumulator Challenge Swapsies

18th February 2020

Things we talked about today…

The accumulator challenge with St Leonard’s Hospice is well underway – the challenge is to somehow turn £35 in to a bigger amount of money, so Ben and Laura decided to play a giant game of swapsies. So far they had swapped the £35 for a pair of Headphones worth £80 from Damson Global. Now they have managed to swap those for a Docking Station from Orbit Sound worth £440! They are now on the look out for something to swap for the station, possibly a weekend away?

All that Laura has spoken about for the whole show is the fact she gets to interview Nicky Byrne from Westlife after the show today, make sure you stay tuned throughout the week to find out how much she embarrassed herself!

And Mamma C has reviewed another new TV show! The Stranger on Netflix has been described as strange. Good, glad we got that out of the way.

Random Acts of Kindness Day!

Laura and Sam had their second Strictly training session for Strictly St Leonard’s yesterday! Sam had lots of compliments about his dancing, Laura was told she needed to improve. 

Ben bought Jess a valentines card and thought he was going to get brownie points for remembering, turns out he didn’t actually look at the card he bought which had a big hippo on the front. One rule: do not imply your wife is a hippo on valentines day.

Billie's Bond!

Things we talked about today…

With another storm on the way, Laura’s mum has shared her secret to getting away with staying inside during Snow. Turns out when Laura was younger, her mum used to claim she was allergic to snow to avoid the snowball fights! But as soon as she got old enough to realise that snow is just water, it was all over.

It's House Band Friday and today Ben and Laura were joined by the fantastic Isabel Sky! At just 13, Isabel is destined to be a country superstar! If you want to check out the Selby talent, you can find her on Facebook at Isobel Sky Music. 

And today was a big day for Bond fans, Billie Eilish released her new track for No Time To Die. Ben and Laura enjoyed it, but what do you think?

Winner on all new Panic!

13th February 2020

Things we talked about today…

We’ve had our first all new panic winner! A big well done to Ian from Huttons Ambo, who absolutely smashed out 5 words with the letter O after Laura gave him his categories. It was tense, and Ben did have to go to VAR because it was so close… but he did it, and won £100 plus a day out to York Dungeon! 

Mrs Peers from Leavening Community Primary School was the latest competitor to face Test the Teacher! She did absolutely incredible with the cup stacking, getting them up and down in just 11 seconds, Mrs Peers also managed 6 correct answers in the quiz and therefore beats the competition going straight to the top of the leaderboard!

Looking ahead to Valentines Day and it’s been revealed that in a lifetime we spend £263,000 on keeping our relationships alive!

Swipey Swipersons

Things we talked about today…

Laura’s new breakfast is causing debate on our Facebook page and between our listeners! ‘Box Bowls’ are mini cardboard boxes of 1 portion of cereal, but they come with a sort of plastic lining, pop your milk in there and there you go! The box becomes the bowl, no washing up and it’s all recyclable! What do you think? Have your say om our Facebook page.

It's Valentines week, and each day Ben has been talking about Valentines dilemmas! Today Ben and Laura were discussing tinder, Laura revealed that her and Sam had once had a competition to see how many tinder matches they could get in 10 minutes. Sam won. Laura says it’s because he was swiping for everyone, Ben says its because she’s punching.

After Ben’s Koi Carp pond flooded over the weekend, he was worried about the fish so insisted that an emergency pond man saw to the matter! Fortunately the fish had all swam to safety at the bottom, unfortunately the bill was £300. Turn’s out you can put a price on a life…

Top Texter!

Things we talked about today…

Today we were looking for Minster FM’s Top Texter! Ben and Laura found out they could see how many texts each listener had sent and decided to start a leaderboard, the top texter with 2391 texts was Danny in Thorpe Willoughby! 

It’s the beginning of the Accumulator Challenge for St Leonard’s Hospice! As it is their 35th anniversary this year, the hospice are giving out £35 to teams and the teams then have to accumulate that money in to a bigger some! You could use it to buy ingredients and have a bake sale for example, Ben and Laura have decided to use it to play swapsies, they will use the £35 to buy something that’s worth more, then keep swapping upwards until we make more money! Damson Global have already given us Headphones that retail at £79.99 for our £35!

Ten Times Table is showing at the Grand Opera House York this week until Saturday, this morning Laura and Ben spoke to Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten who stars in the show, you can listen again from 9:15am.

Things we talked about today…

Laura’s Strictly journey got well underway this week with her first dance rehearsal! 3 hours later she still has 2 left feet, although Sam was better than expected! The challenge is fundraising for St Leonard’s Hospice, where just £15 pays for an hour of care for someone! You can donate via the Just Giving page on our Facebook.

A movie about the making of Ghostbusters will be coming to the Everyman Cinema screens this week, Ben and Laura spoke to the producers of the movie this morning at 7:10am. Make sure to listen again and get down to the Everyman if you’re a fan of the film! Who you gonna call?

Twinnie for the LHA's!

Announcement news! The act that will be performing at the Local Hero Awards has been revealed, this lady is York born, a TV star and has become a Country music megastar! Yes, that’s right – Twinnie will be joining us to celebrate the fabulous winners!

The top 10 male haircuts have been revealed, including the short back and sides, the quiff and the crew cut. We’ll be honest, we didn’t think there were 10!

Mrs Gomez from Westfield Primary was the latest competitor to face Test the Teacher! Whilst she did absolutely incredible with the cup stacking, getting them up and down in just 7 seconds (!!!), Mrs Gomez managed 6 correct answers in the quiz and therefore joins Emily from Applefields at the top of the leaderboard.

I Don't Need A Man!

Things we talked about today…

After the announcement that The Pussycat Dolls will be performing at York Racecourse Laura has channeled her inner girl power, she was struggling to move a bed frame out of the car when her friendly neighbor offered to help, but did she need any help? NO! She’s an independent woman! (well she did actually as she had her head stuck in the bed frame but she still said no!)

Ben’s baby Kara has been hiding things! When in the womb, the midwife said she would be ‘juicy’ so when she was born at 9.1lb it was no shock. But Ben has now been finding things stuck in her double chin! This week he found a little screw!

The VisitYork Tourism Award Finalists have been announced! Congratulations to everyone that is in the final and will be joining Ben at the awards in April!

Knight Sam

Things we talked about today…

It was the launch of Strictly St Leonard’s last night and Laura was pleased to hear that her competitors are also doctors and counselors, she might not be able to help them with her skills, but her dancing will certainly mean they aren’t out of a job!

Laura’s partner Sam decided to take some of his friends unwanted items off of her hands, these belongings were a full suit of armour and chain mail including a helmet and a sword! She later found Sam using the sword to try trim the hedge in the garden.. Sorry to anyone who lives in Acomb and was a witness to this. 

Many problems on the road this morning, we hope you all got to where you needed to be safely and thank you for all of the updates!

Then Pussycat Dolls!

Things we talked about today…

Ben’s niece decided the best place to have her birthday was IKEA! Apparently kids love exploring the aisles and getting the cake in the café at the end. Listen up parents – good tip!

Laura has booked the photographer for her wedding, but is annoyed that Sam gets the bloke and she gets the lady as the bloke is quite fit! Laura’s argument is that the pictures will be better if there’s a twinkle in the bridesmaids eyes!
