Happy Birthday to everyone!
31st July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Do you ever feel guilty or nervous about sharing bad news? Well fear not! There is a man in America called Jon, who gets paid to break bad news to people and post it on YouTube. Anything from you’ve lost your job, to a Jeremy Kyle ‘the baby is not yours’ he will do it for the small fee of 5 dollars. Laura and David have said they could do this, although do not like confrontation so just mediocre news requests please, not bad!
A woman in Brazil who was constantly late for work because she claimed her alarm wasn’t working has installed a camera in her room and found out that her cat has been turning it off! There you go, a new excuse for anyone that wants to stay in bed tomorrow morning…
Laura and David had a lot of birthday requests this morning and made the mistake of saying Laura would sing to you in the style of your choice. There were many listeners that then ‘claimed’ it was their birthday just to hear Happy Birthday sung in the style of Heavy Rock, House, Ballad and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Don’t ask.

Strange Snacks
30th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Laura and David were talking Strange Snacks this morning after Laura was shook to the very core that her partner’s little sister eats frozen peas as a snack! Not cooked, actually frozen! This prompted Laura to share her strange snack which was pancakes, gravy and corned beef. Sparky in Strensall said he was partial to raw bacon, crab sticks and raw black pudding wrap with mayo. I mean, we’re all now very worried for Sparky. *gip*
Twitter has ‘gone off’ at a couple who say they swap sides of the bed each night! To be fair, Laura and David do find it quite strange, everyone has their side don’t they?
Three of Minster Land’s fish and chip shops have made it into the UK’s official guide for the best Fish & Chip shops. A massive congratulations to Millers in Haxby, The Wetherby Whaler and Mister C’s in Selby! Yummy yum.

Have you ever had a moment you want the ground to swallow you up?
29th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
It’s the Love Island Final tonight at 9pm on ITV2! Laura is very excited, David not so much. In fact he hasn’t seen any of the episodes so set Laura a challenge to summarize the whole 8 weeks of content in 30 seconds! It was difficult, but she did it – although we don’t think anyone was more interested as a result…
Today Laura and David have been discussing moments you would like the ground to ‘swallow you up’. David divulged that he had been swimming and whilst coming out of the pool, had heard Tragedy by Steps playing from the aerobics class and automatically started doing the dance! We hope no one saw it, for everyone’s sake! Mark called in and said he had a similar moment, where he lost his trunks! Oh dear…
And finally, a town in Italy called Saonara has started fining people 400 euros if they insult or offend someone! Were not sure how this will be policed but we hope it might result in underground roast battles.

Hopping Mad!
26th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Even the frogs thought it was too hot outside last night as one made its way in Laura’s house! There was a big debarcle as she tried to usher Fred the Frog out of the house, but he ended up under the sofa, on the dining table and behind the drier before getting back to his homeland outside!
Laura and Ben are getting around a bit in the showbusiness circles of York! Last night they had their acting debut in the opening number during Twelfth Night at the Shakespeares Rose – Laura was absolutely loving it and whilst Ben enjoyed himself, he really did have no idea how to dance so the audience may have suffered… AND Laura and Ben were invited to be special guest on the YouTube Challenge show Where’s Next? They went head to head with the team leaders Woody and Amber to hit checkpoints and CORNquer the York Maze. Both videos are on our Facebook page so you can find out who won.
House Band FriYAY! Today we had Ian and Mal performing in the studio ahead of their appearance at the Relay for Life York family fun day this weekend! Jo from the event committee also popped in to give us some more information about this weekend – “Relay For Life is a team fundraising challenge bringing communities together to beat cancer. Teams of family and friends fundraise for life saving cancer research uk, then join other teams and survivors to celebrate their fundraising in an overnight event, taking turns walking around the track”. There’s live entertainment, fun and games and lots more on Saturday the 3rd August! Check out the Facebook page for more info.

Can you do the Warm Weather Challenge?
25th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Tears for Fears are performing at the York Racecourse evening meet tomorrow and Ben and Laura wanted to give two lucky winners some badges to go! The challenge Ben set himself was to make Laura cry and produce actual tears and you had to guess whether he could do it or not! Ben’s attempt included talking about Donkeys and Laura’s parents which did not bring about a tear! Well done to Jo and Maz who guessed correctly and won the badges. Laura said Ben should’ve brought puppies in to the studio, that would’ve done it!
It’s 34 degrees today! It’s mafting! It’s hot! It’s sweltering! And Ben is fed up of every person he meets commenting on the heat, so he’s started the Warm Weather Challenge. If you can go the whole day without commenting ‘it’s hot’ about the weather, you pass. If you slip up and mention the heat – you have to donate a Tin to our Tonne of Tins appeal! So we sort of want you all to fail really…
Ben and Laura were out yesterday in Copmanthorpe doing Greatest Place trying to find the friendliest place in Minster Fm Land! The more flags Laura can get people to wave in 60 seconds, the higher the score. Copmanthorpe managed 8, no one denied the flag so they got an extra 10 bonus points! And Laura pitched for an extra point as a van drove past and ‘wooped’ out of the window but couldn’t stop to wave the flag, so she got them ½ a point (which really makes no difference but we’re happy with it) 18 and a ½ points, second in the leaderboard!

24th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Ronan Keating is coming to Castle Howard next weekend and as well as giving away tickets to see him on the Game Wheel, today we gave away Meet and Greet tickets on Ben’s Bonus Round. The listeners had to guess what Laura’s favorite Boyzone/Ronan song was, after a few incorrect guesses, John Hawkins guessed correctly with Father and Son and won the tickets to see and meet Ronan Keating! Congratulations!
Ellie Goulding is allegedly set to get married in York Minster this summer! This has not been confirmed yet, but rumour has it if she does get married there we’ll have a lot of Royal guests in and around York! Laura is very sad that this is yet another person that is getting married before her…
Today we have been discussing the greatest Job Titles after Laura’s pal became ‘Head of Soap’ at the weekend – so we took to Facebook and asked the listeners for their job titles! A lot of fantastic comments including ‘Giggle Doctor’, ‘Vehicle Progressor’ and ‘Cabbage Mechanic’ but our winner today, just because Ben and Laura loved saying the word but didn’t have a clue what the job is, was ‘Phlebotomist’. Well done to Lucy Dennis-Mcculloch who has a very cool job and wins some cinema tickets to Everyman.

Things we talked about today…

As it is very sunny today, we thought our bonus round question would be, what is Laura’s favorite ice lolly. Rob got it right and won the tickets to Tears for Fears and Racing this Friday, however it opened up a can of worms and it seems we have divided North Yorkshire… According to Ben, a magnum is an ice lolly, according to Laura it is an ice cream! Go to the Facebook page to place your vote!
Thursday will be the day that Laura and Ben grace the stage of the mighty Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre! They are very excited to be part of the action in Twelfth Night and they will be playing *drum roll* THE OCEAN! Yes that’s right, they will be waving some blue flags and making wavy sea noises. Catherine bagged £1000 on Panic!
22nd July 2019
Things we talked about today…
Ben and Laura asked you all on Facebook: What was the last silly thing you cried at? A comment would be chosen at random to win badges to Tears for Fears this Friday at York Racecourse! Crying… tears for fears… get it? Ben last cried at a West Wing Podcast and Laura cried at a dog in a pram, but the random generator chose Liz Walsh who cried at her sons leaving assembly! Well done Liz.
After the last success of The Greatest Showman outdoor cinema event at The Principal Hotel, the hotel have decided to run the event again, this time to raise money for St Leonards Hospice! Laura and Ben spoke to Tracy from The Principal this morning to find out more…
Congratulations to Catherine!! This morning, Catherine was the 3rd person to win £1000 with panic! She correctly named 5 countries that border Turkey in under 10 seconds (although she was very very close to the bell!) it was more dramatic than the cricket world cup! And guess where she is spending the money? A Holiday to Turkey. How fitting! A massive well done to Catherine for keeping her nerve and also a good luck as she starts her new job today too!

Scouting for Girls big winner!
17th July 2019
Things we talked about today…
York is at the top of the leaderboard… for all the wrong reasons apparently! Turns out York leads the way in the UK with 16% having cheated on their partner! That’s 1 in 7 people, 1 in 7!!!
Laura and Ben spoke to Scouting For Girls front man Roy Stride today, he told us all about their new album ‘The Trouble with Boys’ and played their new single Grown Up. As the boys are also gracing North Yorkshire with their musical talents at Thirsk Racecourse on the 16th August, we also gave one lucky winner the chance to win tickets to the Racing and Meet and Greet with SFG! Congrats to Sonia in New Earswick. Ben is Jealous.
Border Collies and Cocker Spaniels make the top of the list for the ‘naughtiest dog breeds’ as they are the most likely to need Behavioural Therapy. Being a dog lover Laura argued that they aren’t naughty, just energetic! Ben then said the same thing.. about his son.
