Ignite Sports Coaching

About Them

Ignite was established in 2018 by James Shimmin, a Primary PE specialist, who has over 11 years of experience as a Freelance Sports Coach.

We pride ourselves on delivering inclusive, engaging, and most of all, FUN lessons across a wide variety of sports and activities to children aged 4 - 13.

As well as PE lessons we work across York with a number of primary schools, delivering sports clubs and enrichment days. Throughout the school holidays we run multi sport holiday clubs for children aged 4 - 13.

James and the Ignite Sports coaching team aim to inspire children to have an active, healthy lifestyle and to gain a passion for life-long participation in activity.

Why Should They Win?

We should win because we are aiming to inspire children to be active for life!

Our belief is that there is a sport and/or activity for everyone, therefore providing as many different opportunities for children to participate in activity is paramount to us.

Another goal of ours is to create positive lasting memories of activity for children so they can take their love of sport into adulthood.

Sport aside, we build a rapport with the children we teach in an attempt to help the individuals build life skills.

Finally, our prices are very competitive as we aim to keep costs down for parents and make the club as accessible as possible.

Stagedoor Academy

About Them

Stagedoor Academy offers musical theatre classes for under 18s. Every year, we transform Howden Shire Hall into a new and exciting place; whether that's France (Les Mis), America (Legally Blonde), or London (Oliver) - we put on shows with the students which allows them to boost their confidence, learn skills in singing and acting, and have great fun whilst meeting and working with others to put on amazing West-end quality shows.

Why Should They Win?

We have so much fun in the classes, and the students do too - the thrill of show-week is something that you simply can't get elsewhere!

We think the effort the students put into putting on the shows deserves recognition as they work all year round to learn lines, practice dance moves and they aways stretch themselves to do things that they always think "I can't do this" at the start!

We have seen so many students grow for the last 20 years of Stagedoor Academy and we would love to win this award so the students know what an amazing job they're doing!

1st Holgate Scout Group

About Them

1st Holgate Scouts are quite possibly North Yorkshire's largest Scout Group, and we continue to grow. Always inclusive our 'One for All', group is for scouts with additional needs.  

We are run by a team of unpaid volunteers who give up their time to organise  activities week in week out, come rain or shine for our 350 members who's ages are from 6-17.

Why Should They Win?

At 1st Holgate, we believe in providing young people with skills for life.  That's why we encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more.  

Each week, we give 100s of young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed.  This is teamwork, leadership and resilience skills that have helped Scouts develop for later life. We believe in bringing people together celebrating diversity and standing against intolerance, always. 

This award would be in recognition for our volunteers without whom we couldn't do what we do.

Energi Trampoline Park York

About Them

It's been 3 years since 2 local York lads opened the doors to Energi Trampoline Park, a 24,000 sqm2 indoor leisure facility based on York Business Park, Poppleton.

Energi Trampoline Park offers 100 interconnected trampolines as well as a Dodgeball Area, Foam Pit, Air Bag, Assault Course and a 5*Cafe located on a mezzanine floor providing the perfect vantage point.

During this time, we have developed and maintained a 60+ work force ranging from Full Time & Part Time Positions. We have also attracted a varied and diverse customer base covering a wide range of demographics from 2 years of age all the way to individuals in their 80's.

Our main focus is families and providing them with a safe, clean and enjoyable experience that they can all revel in.

Why Should They Win?

In short there's NO YOU in this category. We the Energi Family deserve to be shortlisted because without that ethos/mind set there would be no Energi Trampoline Park. Energi Trampoline Park was a labour of love from 2 local lads from York and everyone who signed up for this rollercoaster of a journey. So to be shortlisted is a Huge Thank You to them and their efforts.

This is the only venue in York that you can visit where the whole family from 2yrs upwards can literally bounce off the walls with a huge smile on all their faces, whilst at the same time without realising doing some very important exercise.

In just over 3 years we have successfully created a Family Friendly Experience in York which includes our very popular 3 hour Beats XL Disco Night on a Friday exclusively for 7-17 year olds providing a safe and enjoyable environment.

Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance

About Them

Established in 2013, Yorkshire Rose Academy of Dance provides a vast range of classes for children aged 2.5 and up. 

We provide inclusive and engaging classes that will inspire, nurture talent and improve confidence in children. Not only that, but the children form incredible friendships and receive valuable life skills and discipline from the classes without even realising it (as they’re so much FUN).

We also provide opportunities to take dance examinations and perform on stage, not to mention our ever-popular holiday workshops and Summer Schools.

All classes are taught by highly qualified teachers, who really know their stuff and more importantly know how to deliver.

Why Should They Win?

Our teachers are incredibly passionate about what they do and work so hard to create a community feel whilst providing quality training. 

In addition, in many cases we go beyond the studio to provide support to the children and their families outside of their classes. 

We understand that some children come as a hobby and some for a future career in the industry, but either way we are helping to form these children’s futures and know that they will have a healthy lifestyle and a great work ethic going forwards.

Miss Kerry herself has given her life up to dance following leaving home at age 11 to attend The Royal Ballet School in London, and later working within the Musical Theatre industry. Her knowledge and passion for dance is evident and this shines though in all of the teaching staff, who just want to pass on their knowledge to the next generation. 

An unimaginable amount of work goes into the school behind the scenes to keep the school running at its high standard - so to be recognised for our work would be just wonderful.

Froggy Legs Swim School

About Them

Swimming lessons for babies, children, teens and adults.

Why Should They Win?

A small family run business. The swim school has been running for 13 years. With strong community ties.

We helped Carr school in their sponsered "swim the channel" to raise money for their pool to be relined. Helping to raise their £9k target in 4months. We are still fundraising so that the community in Acomb have a community pool to learn to swim in.
