Why Should They Win?

North South East West

The Half Moon pub is the Best!

The Whippet Inn

About Them

When we opened our doors in 2014 our aim was to create a Home from Home atmosphere for all our guests to relax & unwind in, with nostalgic decor that is often referred to as a little quirky. We set out to find the best Yorkshire produce for both food & drink and continue to serve it with genuinely warm Yorkshire hospitality. We have remained true to our roots over the years but now more than ever we are really proud to be recognised as a standalone pub & not just a restaurant with a bar.

Our bar is an eclectic mix from a an ever changing range of On Tap  Yorkshire Real Ales & lagers, over 50 bespoke gins (of course always showcasing our county's best and brightest), a wine list to rival any great pub & a cocktail menu created in- house to tantalise the taste buds, including a Barrel Aged Section.

We may be small but we have worked really hard to fill every nook & cranny with the best Yorkshire has to offer- ensuring a unique & an unparalleled range for our guests to select from, whether seated in our cosy bar in the winter or spacious secret garden in the summer months and if thats not enough we are of course dog friendly!

Why Should They Win?

We have made ourselves into a pub that truly has something for everyone - Whisky to Wine, Dessert Cocktails to Real Ales- in extending our range to one of the largest in York we have not compromised on quality, nor have we have lost sight of our opening aim- to proudly support all things Yorkshire! Having worked with over 70 different local suppliers since opening we truly believe we represent the best York has to offer to residents & visitors alike.

We think everything makes a difference to our guests- referred to internally as a Controlled Paranoia and as crucial in training as product knowledge. Is the temperature perfect? Is the music adding to the guest experience?

Truly taking on what our guests want from us & proactively finding out keeps us moving forward, creating a buzz within our team that we believe is clear to our guests when they see our enthusiasm for what we are doing- in turn keeping things fresh for them and a reason for the locals to keep returning.

Independent business can sadly come and go, but our passion & pride as York's hidden gem is a force to be reckoned with- what makes it even more unique is the passion & sense of ownership is from every single person that works here.

The Mended Drum

About Them

The Mended drum is  a community pub first and foremost.

We are a focal point for the village, hosting pool and dominoes teams, serving as a meeting place for local groups, and organisations.

Secondly, we are a restaurant, serving a modern take on the pub classics, at sensible prices.

And thirdly we are a haven for the serious ale and gin connoisseur, we carry a range that most city centre pubs would cry out for.

Why Should They Win?

From being a derelict building in 2010, planned for demolition, closed down for years not far from falling down on its own having had a reputation of an old style village boozer, the Star became The Mended Drum. Over the years since its rebirth, the Mended Drum has gone from strength to strength with the managers Ricki and Lisa doing a fantastic job, and shifting the focus to the craft cask and keg ales, building up strong relationships with local brewers and becoming a firm favourite with CAMRA, leading to them recently being given the prestigious title of pub of the year.

Beer festivals are held three times per year with dozens of local beers available, many that you would only expect at the most adventurous of city centre ale houses.

The Mended Drum also serves fantastic food, with a regularly changing menu, incorporating street food and modern takes on british classics and our special “Alternative Sunday Lunch”

All of this has led to us becoming the thriving heart of our community.

We look forward to welcoming you.

The Crooked Tap

About Them

New craft beer bar in Acomb York. Serving up the country's best craft beer on keg and cask as well as a excellent range of gins and a small cocktail menu.

We're a small welcoming team with great knowledge. We host a number of events including weekly pop up pizza kitchen, live jazz music and a quiz. Dog friendly, family friendly we have quickly established ourselves as part of the community.

Why Should They Win?

Our friendly team have worked hard making The Crooked Tap a key feature of Acomb community already. We welcome new and regular faces as if their lifelong friends and only serve the best products available.
